Guten Tag

With no lederhosen to be found in my closet, I improvised to create this particular outfit. After a night dancing away to Flogging Molly, I couldn't bring myself to wear heels:

Shawl, necklace, & blouse: vintage from my mom's closet; sweater: Arancrafts via eBay; purse: vintage Coach via Encore; thrifted shorts, via Encore, scarf from Comptoir Irlandais in Dijon, France; Clarks desert boots

Guten tag, or the German schoolboy, as my boyfriend puts it. My response?

Photobucket

Yes. Man Repelling one pair of flat desert boots at a time.

I have also started playing with a tripod and remote control. These pictures are the result.

I also like to pretend that the lamp is my studio lighting. I suppose I feel the need to show you all the different light, hence the 10 photos. I swear.

Today we saw German documentarist Werner Herzog's latest film, Into the Abyss. The world always seems a bit different walking out of one of his works and this was no exception.

I hope you had a lovely weekend, here's to an easy start to another week. Gros bisous.

Iced Over

DSC_2454
I went down to the lake to admire the crazy ice formations following a few really cold days.

Inspired by blogger Valentine's chunky headbands, I tried out this scarf as a way to keep my ears warm, fight the wind, and avoid having the camera hit my brim! Still thinking about ways to tie it. The Aran sweater is a very special purchase - I will go into more detail about it soon!

I am endlessly fascinated by how different the landscape can be despite seemingly similar weather conditions. I missed the opportunity to take pictures in sunlight and trying to use different analog lenses, the lighting was pretty off. And editing scares me/I need to take a digital photography class.

Thanks for stopping by. Gros bisous.

Poetic Earth Leather Goods

DSC_0913
Around Christmas, I was introduced to these gorgeous pieces by Poetic Earth, based in Syracuse New York.
DSC_0909
It's a tiny, traveling operation where everything is done by hand.
DSC_0916
These bags smelled absolutely divine.
DSC_0919
And the leather is supple and sturdy.
DSC_0915
The bag above was giant, easily travel-duffle size. Barring my current state of unemployment, I would have taken this one.

The journals are hand-painted. For each color applied, the leather must dry before using a different color.

And the owner and assistant were awesome. They let me snap away and talked to us for 45 minutes. My boyfriend left with a journal and he hasn't parted with it since. Do check them out at: http://www.poeticearthjournals.com
I'm pretty sure they do make bags on order, these are really priced on the lower end for the type of merchandise you are getting. Most things like this are usually in the $1000 range. I swear!

Hope you're having a good week, maybe be back with a style post tomorrow. Please let me know what you think, leave a thought or three!

Bisous.

Socks & Desert Boots

DSC_2295
Inspired by the New York Times Readers' Street Style theme of last week, I wanted to show my socks, too!

Full disclosure: I tried to sneak these pics in before they posted but 5 pm on a sunday is too late for Monday publishing. In case you didn't know. Then we watched the superbowl. Well, I made soup and listened.

Hope your week started well, hoorah for the weekend nearly here.

Bisous.

Also, pics of me by Tim.

Tea Time, Tea Length

When I visited Chicago in August to see apartments, we had some time to kill before our visit. A thrift store across the street from the building we were visiting beckoned me inside. The prices were ludicrously low, like someone had forgotten to write the last "0" on the tags. In the back, I found a 2-piece vintage Evan Piccone for Saks skirt suit and loved it. I decided that if it was still there in one month's time, it would be my reward for packing my life into a truck and moving to an unknown city half way across the country. One day after arrival, I marched across the street and there it was. Waiting for me.

This skirt, though wool, works across seasons, from warmer months to colder. taken in my cousins' beautiful backyard, I've been wanting to share this next photo for a while. My aunt commented that she hadn't seen anyone wear a similar silhouette since the 60's. Which maybe places the era it was made? I try to guess by labels but I never really know. I hope it takes you back to summer for just a moment:

I believe I've said it before but I'll say again that Haleigh plays the best music on her blog Making Magique (and her pictures are truly magique). Thanks to her, the group Washed Out has become my soundtrack to this grey wintertime. I've been listening to "Soft" on loop for the last month. It makes me want to dance around semi-interpretively but with much arm-waving. Does that make any sense?

Anyway, I hope winter is treating you nicely wherever you are.

Bisous.
