Je m'en souviens - Part 2

Inspired by... this Camel blazer:

If you are newly tuning in, this is the 2nd in a series of 5 posts dedicated to my style icon and  inspiration, my mother.  See this post for more details.   Judging by my sister's size, image circa: 1979-1980.

I found this Italian cashmere blazer stuffed in my closet when camel started to be touted as this season's "thing."  Perhaps I noticed it because I was trying to be on trend?  But I was thrilled - one less thing to lust after while reading The Sartorialist.  The pendant my mom is wearing was a gift from my mom's mentor during her medical school residency.  It featured the emblem from the Saudi Arabian flag and was stolen a few years ago.  Her mentor lives in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and became a fairy godmother to me and my sister.

Cleaning this past week with my sister, I found this photo and couldn't help but show you one of the ways I like to style it:

On my hidden right hand is this ring:

I had already pilfered it before the theft, making it one of my only pieces that I remember playing with in my mom's jewelry box as a little girl, and that I still have.  The postcard behind it is dated 190? - the ink has faded.  I bought it along the Seine.

I am wearing a Galleria New York Vintage blazer, H&M jeans, Cécilia silk blouse, vintage Ferragamo boots, Laurel Burch earrings, bracelet bought in Budapest and vintage ring and watch (both accessoires de maman)

Tune in again soon for more of my tribute.  Bisous.

Boyfriend's sweater

Feeling a bit manic these last few days, stress at work, stress at home.  So I am lagging on blogging.  But this is my attempt at picking myself up by my bootstraps.  And, as a play on words, inspired by the $430 boyfriend cardigan that I lust after at work, here is my boyfriend's sweater as a boyfriend sweater.

Keeping with the purpose of the blog, Mother's accessories, my earrings were from a trip to Oaxaca that my mom and dad took in the '70's. I had already adopted them before thieving scoundrels absconded with most of Maman's jewelry.

Please follow... don't you want to?  And many thanks to those who already do.  I appreciate it.  I have to figure out which blogger template looks like this "classic" one but still allows me to show which blogs I follow.  I don't mean to discredit any mutual following!  If anyone has HTML tips they feel like sharing, I will not say no to help.

Off to veg a bit.  Thanks very much for stopping by!  Bisous.

P.S.  In the background is a Mexican creche that is also from Oaxaca.  The colors and detail of the set make my Christmas that much brighter.   I hope eventually to add a Provençale creche to my own collection.

Happy birthday to me...

With a pair of vintage Salvatore Ferragamo boots that I basically stole from a local consignment store:

My mom always said that Ferragamos were the only shoe that fit her feet and so when I stumbled upon these, I couldn't pass them up.  She would approve.

The leaves are floating in the swimming pool

Jens Lekman's "Farewell Song to Rocky Dennis."

Earlier this summer, I invested in a pair of Clarks Classics, knowing I would not last an hour in those über-cute heeled desert boots.  Though Seychelles does a great version of desert boots by Chloé that I lusted after last year.

The Clarks are pretty comfy, yet I am still trying to figure out ways to wear them!  A preference: layered over skinny jeans or tights with higher socks.
This is one of my inspirations:

So blatantly French, she balances chic with comfort sans effort (effortlessly).

From my maman's closet, I have been wearing this scarf frequently and waiting for cooler days to start wearing this hat.
Any shoe styles that have caught your fancy this season?  I would love to hear from you!
